I was watchin some dynamap tutorials and some folks were showing off a 3d world view. Do we have that on our map? If so how do I access it?

It was pretty awesome!

I’ve seen screenshots of 3D dynmaps… they’re cool! I don’t know what version of map they use, but as far as I know, the one we use doesn’t do 3D. I assume (but don’t know!) that it would be a lot more resource-heavy than what we have.

The isometric/3d view is the default setting on Dynmap, I believe. When it is enabled you will see another button next to the ‘flat’ options for each level of Dynmap called ‘surface’, you click on that to see the 3d view. However, this is not currently enabled on JD, (as Kim speculated) I imagine that it is probably more resource intensive and that’s why it’s not enabled, but that is purely conjecture on my part. 😉

We had a situation 2 months after our server was started (2 weeks after dynmap was installed) where Dynmap had taken up all of the available free space that was allocated to us. This event ended up crashing the server and corrupting some of the world. We had to roll back a few days to a save point. From then on I decided that since we don’t have ultimate control over our disk size, I would keep dynmap on minimum settings.

But now we DO have control of disk size as our VM has an allocated set of space for us and I have access to the command line. So, as a test really, I added a ‘map’ to the main server’s list of maps on Dynmap that is 3D. I will be keeping an eye on the size to make sure it doesn’t go nuts. Right now we have 15G out of 50G available. (I also cleaned up those odd layers on the left hand side).

Well, its running highest quality and 3d. I may need to turn down the quality if it is sucking up too much memory. We’ll see. 😀
