I am looking for your advice how to most efficiently clear a large area in the nether (~~310×310) with use of TNT. Ideally, i would like to clear it from upper bedrock to lower bedrock (lava lakes on lower levels can be an issue). I will not be able to use as many TNT as zipkrowd guys used, so I am looking for some efficient TNT patern. Is it beetter to clear layer by layer or maybe hole by hole? from up to down or in oposite direction? I appreciate your thoughts about how to do it in the least trouble way.

I don’t know if you would call it efficient but you could save on the TNT if you sleep in a bed in the nether instead (no guarantees you wont die). other than that I would say it would probably be easier to set up a beacon or a few with haste or whatever the fast mining is called and use an efficiency pick. Doing that layer by layer would be quicker than placing each TNT.that’s what I think at least, hope it helps.

Digging it out with picks only, can be horribly expensive: for a full layer (around 90k blocks) and diamond pick with unbreaking 3 it will be around 15-20 picks per one layer, if i am not wrong. Therefore I was thinking about TNT and of course some picks but beds, well, this can be something 🙂

I think Mongrel may be on the money about the picks being faster than tnt placement, unfortunately, particularly if you need to be particularly efficient with your tnt. by the time you get the holes dug and tnt placed in them, it may well wind up burning through quite a few picks as well.

for what it’s worth, myself or dragon may be able to set you up a deal for some bulk diamond picks to use for repairs. with the new mechanics, shouldn’t be too expensive to keep a dozen or so enchanted ones going through the dig.
