I like having dynmap. It helps me a lot with finding other peoples homes, connecting portals, and all other nether/overworld stuff. Also it is useful for new members to know what the world looks like. It is easier for them to know where to go when they search for certain biomes to build their homes in.

I like the ability to converse when I’m not on the server, but it seems there are plenty of other options when it comes to that.

I like the idea of having a map I can look at. If I had understood it better when I started I would have used it to select a better location for my base. It is nice to be able to see what claims are where and who has them. I’ve used it to make sure of my permissions on my own claims. It’s nice to see who my neighbors are (or find an area that doesn’t have any lurking just over the hill).

But if it is taxing the server then I could live without it. Is it possible to have something a little less real-time? Could it be updated once a day or twice a day? It would be nice to have a snapshot to use to explore for a new area to be in. I know when we needed lily pads my wife used it to find the nearest swamp to us. That was way easier than whining in chat to find one or get the lily pads.

With dynmap disabled now for a little while, we’re still seeing lag during world saves, but overall lag has gone down. The world save lag i’m sure is related to the 1.6.4 update as more data relating to structures is getting queued in the save cache. That I cant help and doubt they’ll leave in the game when 1.7 is released, but you never know. Zombies still are a cause for lag on the server and I may consider disabling them again as well.

I would like to have dynmap enabled again, its a great tool. We should revisit this when 1.7 is released. I’m sure everyone will want to use it to see where the new biomes are at.

I always have dynmap open when I am playing. So I would be a little bummed to see it go, but at the same time if it’s causing too much lag then that’s fine.<br />
No lag > dynmap

Same, I found myself using it pretty often to see where I was in relation to everywhere else, especially while travelling. True I can use coords but I’m rubbish at using them, still end up going the wrong ways. Still, wouldn’t be too big a deal to see it go. There’s no dynmap on single player after all.

I’ve enabled dynmap so I can work on trimming up the map for 1.7

I find I’ve missed it more than I thought.

Is this just a temporary thing or…? It didn’t seem to be helping the lag spikes on world saves to have it off.

Lag spikes were from 1.6.4 and the inventory wipes where from a faulty version of spigot 1.6.2 and later.
Fun times.
