Hi, I’m Kimberly. I’m not really sure how to introduce myself beyond that without leaving you more confused than before you read this, so I’ll just say I’m a bum. I am married to Sporknoggin, who would also like to be a bum, but we’re not quite rich enough for that, yet.

Spork and I got into Minecraft about two months ago after seeing multiple references to the game in online fora and articles titled “What is Minecraft and why is it fun?”. We asked ourselves and each other that question, and then decided to check it out for ourselves… and it has ruined our lives. I play it nearly all day while he’s at work, and the first thing he does when he gets home is log in to the game. We keep waiting for the novelty to wear off, but the game is so complex-yet-simple that it has us locked in. But if you were to ask me “What is Minecraft and why is it fun?” I still couldn’t answer adequately.

For the first couple of weeks, we played on our local server, getting acquainted with the environment, learning as much as we could on our own. But we soon realized that awesome builds are nothing without a community to share it with, and it’s better to learn from and with others. So Spork started looking for a good server for us to join. We had a few misses; my server list includes one that I called “random server” because it was so random and chaotic, and we still check in to see the status of a terribly-run public server where we resided long enough to build up a nice farm, only to have the owner reset the world without advance notice because he was “tired of the giant biomes” and wanted a new map. So when Spork found Jackal’s Den, which boasts that there will never be a reset, and it’s 18+… well, it sounded too good to be true.

But it’s good and it’s true, and I think we’ll stay (as long as Jackal lets us!).
