In the very beginning of the server I built this structure at spawn that would spawn pigs, drop them through lava and die with fall damage providing cooked beef for anyone standing in the area. I removed it because of how overpowered it was, plus it wasn’t legit.
That was replaced by a command block method where every 5 minutes somebody could hit a button and get 10 bread. The button wouldn’t work anymore until 5 minutes had passed. It was a better way to provide everlasting food for new players, without being overpowered. But still, it wasn’t legit, so I got rid of that too.
Instead of the button, I put food donation chests down where the button was and provided public access to the chests. I think it was 4 chests. I’d fill these chests with mainly steak from my giant cow farm. People took advantage of it and I found myself constantly filling the chests with food.
Needless to say, I gave up on the whole automated method of giving food to new people. When new people join I try to offer it by asking. Most reject it, I think because they believe i’ll spawn it for them using creative or whatnot.
So I suppose there are 2 options.
1. Build a public farm for people to use and hope they replant and don’t grief the area.
2. Or.. We could have a food donation system that will accept food donations and will limit the amount people can take using a dispenser clock that would work every 5 minutes… Sounds like a fun redstone project as we’d want to be sure that it only accepted food and not arrows that would shoot people. 😉
