900 hours from that first day…

Recently Jackal’s Den has gone through yet another host change, this time the change to VPS has made a dramatic difference in game-play. The server was previously hosted from a provider that shared resources and disk space between all of their customers and the only thing dedicated to our server alone was RAM now you might say that shouldn’t a problem however you have to consider a few factors about Jackal’s Den. First, our world map is 40k x 20k (that’s 40,000 by 20,000) and expanding as we roll out to the 1.7 update that is a monumental amount of land to divide, conquer and build on. Second, with that immense of a world navigating as a new comer would be extensively difficult so we provide access to a dynamap or as I like to call it Google Maps for Minecraft giving you a bird’s eye view to select that prime piece of real estate to build on. Third and this I believe is the selling point of Jackal’s Den, is a guaranteed no map reset, the borders will only continue to expand. Trust me, for the 900 hrs I’ve logged since joining back in January polls, discussions and rumors have been spoken of that mythical map reset happening however it has not and will not happen. The server is now hosted on 50 GB of dedicated disk space, 3 GB of dedicated RAM, 4500 GB bandwidth and the one thing that makes all the nerds drool the not 1 or 2 or 3 but the 8 CPU cores! Are you convinced yet? No you say?! Well now your probably thinking how many admins do I have to put up with and how many are running the show behind the scenes and I can tell you we have a team and by team I mean a one-man team running the show; Jackalmen. Now folks if you want to see a truly dedicated and possibly addicted server owner/admin, Jack is your man. Jack is the CEO, COO, supervisor, manager, operations coordinator, team lead, the customer representative, the accountant, the complaints department, the repairman, and sometimes the final judge. Jack does it all, however not without a little help and support at times from his “better” counter part as she puts it his wife Crazy_Misty. And sometimes the older members and even the new members of the community pitch in and lend a hand and even become test subjects. Jack I don’t think I say this enough but thank you for all that you do and all that you put up with, thank you for bringing together a community of strangers and making them close friends and turning some of those friendships into relationships. Thank you for providing those moments of entertainment after a long days work, the shenanigans, the trolling (poor Tupper), the fun moments, the odd moments, and the totally not safe for work or viewing by young children chat conversations.

Continued dedication to the community of Jackal’s Den

Thanks guys for making the last 900 hours and 10 months the best I’ve ever spent with complete strangers who now have turned into friends. Without you guys I think I would go insane from boredom and possibly die from stress. Every single one of you are amazing in your own ways and I love you all!

Aww… a screenshot of your /claimslist return with you standing in front of your base would’ve been a nice inclusion. Not that anybody doubts your hours, but just to show where you were when that number was reached. Y’know? Anyway, congratulations, Kiet! At the rate I’m going, I fear I’m not long behind you.

Well. Shit. I’ve been here for almost 7 months. Has it really been that long? There’s no way. What the actual fuck. Kiet, why did you have to make me feel old, yo?
